Thanksgiving Food Boxes

A wonderful tradition sponsored by the parish youth group has emerged in St. James even before my arrival giving food boxes to help needy/struggling families for Thursday’s Thanksgiving dinner. It’s a delight to see an overwhelming response from the parish and the larger community of Coolidge donating de todo un poco. This year we made over 30 boxes, almost doubled compared to the previous year. When only a box was left, we formed a circle of prayer, shared our experiences/what transpired us and thanked God for life, the opportunity to serve and time spent. Because some families couldn’t pick them up in the church, they went by two’s and three’s for delivery. Everything went well except maybe for a family of four who pulled in just in front of the hall with a brand new BMW with leather seats. Maybe, they’re unemployed or just taking advantage of freebies. Still, it’s hard to reconcile. Amen.
