Advent Penance Service

Advent Penance Service means a grand tour of Pinal County West Vicariate, great dinner served in the company of my brother priests and a huge relief from the cycle of office work and parish administration. After over a week of rounds, it’s time to host dinner for my brother priests at Shope’s residence.

What drives us to the church for confession can probably be summed up in two: first, we come to God because we are sinners and we will always be. Tired of our sinfulness, we feel the need of forgiveness reinforced by our deep faith in a God who’s always ready to embrace us through his church without which, I can’t imagine anyone walking to the church this evening.

This year at St. James, the service was very simple. There was no music which I thought was classic. It began with a procession, followed by the greetings, Confiteor, reading of the Gospel, short homily, introduction of priest’s confessors and confession. It all starts with a heart contrite and I cannot be more than happy with tonight’s turn out. Amen.
