The New Edition of the Roman Missal

For two Sundays in a row, I’ve introduced the New Translation of the Roman Missal to the Youth Group. Despite all the issues surrounding the entire process, I find it a teachable moment, a huge opportunity to preach about the Mass. My approach is slightly different. I will start with the basics…the Eucharist as the source and summit of Ecclesial Life and a piece of history down the road. What I’ve usually heard from my people is that they were never taught of the meaning behind the ritual. In the first two Sundays, there was a relatively thin participation among the teens by way of comparison to those who showed up during the kick- off but I found those present very attentive, engaging, interactive and receptive of what the parish has to offer. They weren’t aware that some of the responses at Mass and prayers will change beginning November 27 of this year yet they’re off to a good start. Amen.
