Fasting and Abstinence

Fasting and Abstinence are almost non-existent nowadays but it doesn’t mean the tradition has faded away. The last time I checked the canon it’s still there. Good Friday is a universal day of penance and prayer. Fasting (binds ages between 19 and 59, strictly speaking) and abstinence (15 and over), are obligatory, except of course for health reasons unless otherwise, the USCCB has set a different guideline, I’m not aware at this moment. For sure, this is not simply dieting to maintain our beautiful figures but an act of sacrifice for repentance and the forgiveness of sins. It’s an ancient practice of penance that has a very special place in the church. Amen.
