Driving around town, I noticed that most churches, including the smaller communities with more or less 400 memberships, have state- of- the- art marquees while St. James, by far, the second largest, with over 500 churchgoers (more or less 30% of total registered, needs census to be exact) at any given Sunday, has none. I’m a firm believer that Catholics are capable of doing anything if resources are pooled together. For as long as I’m the taking the lead, I don’t want St. James to be left behind. I decided then to push hard the idea of sacrifice/giving up our unnecessary addictions (shopping, excessive alcohol consumption, smoking whatever, plus vices or anything that leads to sinfulness) during the lenten season solely for this cause.
Yet, any accomplishment in the parish has always been and will always be due to sacrificial giving and the generosity of our hearts. The plan was initially brought to me in one of the pastoral council meetings last year. I put it off for sometime though under the impression that it was timely to run this campaign on lent. We’re looking for the best of its kind, something that will stand out, 3k probably works. However, it all boils down on the amount raised. To date, we have $1,500.00 and definitely counting and waiting. Amen.
