As I was going out of the back door of the office after the 7am Mass one friday morning, a shabbily dressed woman in her late 50’s looking tired and stressed out surprisingly approached me and asked to help her pay bills. She mentioned she went to different churches in town to no avail and decided to come to St. James, her only recourse, by the way, a Catholic as I found out later, that means, she belonged here. As someone who’s experienced suffering firsthand, I knew what it was like to lose electricity. To make the long story short, we helped her more than she thought and myself imagined. A member of the staff, though, reminded her not to broadcast it because as soon as the word gets out that St. James helps, they will start coming and leaving as if it were an insurance company. Nope, it’s charity. Amen.
