Martyrdom of John the Baptist

Many of us know that John the Baptist was the voice in the wilderness, a man whose preaching can move mountains. He was one of the well-respected preachers in his time. He suffered martyrdom for teaching the truth. Herod was totally devastated when he heard John’s comments against his marriage to his brother Philip’s former spouse. Refusing to hear them, he was sent to prison and paid the price for honesty. Well, as far as Herod was concerned, the best way to deal with the Prophet was to put him to jail. On his birthday, he was greatly delighted at how the daughter of Herodias gracefully danced. So, he offered her half of his kingdom to take him away from shame. When she went to her Mother to ask what would be the best request, Herodias asked for the head of John the Baptist. We may put enemies to prison and even decapitate them but truth remains. It’s never changed by simple human orders. Amen.
